Scenario 1:

You're excited to start your Day 1 plan in Japan, but you miss a train, and suddenly—bam—the whole schedule falls apart. The day is ruined…

Scenario 2:

You finally get on the right train, but now you're dragging your 20kg bag and walking another 20 minutes to your stop. (You might tell yourself it's your "Workout of the Day" to feel better…)

Scenario 3:

You miss the last train and have to pay 5,000 yen for just a 10-minute taxi ride…

We hope these are the stories our customers could avoid!

The train system here in Japan is quite different from Malaysia. For us Malaysians, most people have to travel here at least 3 times to be comfortable with navigation. Trains outside big cities usually come only once an hour, so if you take the wrong one, it wastes time, money, and energy.

Today, let's share some simple tips to avoid these transport mix-ups and make your Japan trip smooth and easy.

Train

Most common and cheapest transport method in Japan. Local trains are very convenient within city areas, but will take a longer time to travel between cities, and the chance of navigating wrong is higher. Read here for more.

Shinkansen

The bullet train is the fastest for intercity travel, especially between the Tokyo/Fuji area and Osaka. Bottom line: Reserved seat tickets have to be purchased earlier, or you'll have to stand for the whole trip.

Private Charter/Airport Transfer

Most affordable transportation method if you're traveling in a big group and to rural areas in Japan. The most private and comfortable travel method among all of them, and if you book through Tabigo’s chartered service, language barrier is not a problem.

Taxi

This is our least recommended option—it's generally the priciest way to get around out of all of them, and language barriers are a common headache.
