Best Vegetarian & Vegan Japanese Cuisine in Tokyo 2026 (Halal-Friendly)

As a vegetarian myself, I can finally share with you all some of the nice vegetarian/vegan spots around the Tokyo area. As vegetarian meal doesn’t contain any meat or seafood, so it’s also a good alternative food option for our Muslim friends.

While there are more and more options in Tokyo, vegetarian choices can still be quite challenging outside the city areas in Japan. You will be surprised — most Japanese don’t fully understand the concept of vegetarian and think we can eat seafood. 😅 Hence, if you can’t eat seafood, please double-check with them too.

On the other hand, it’s more common in Japan for restaurants to ask about food allergies. Sometimes the staff will ask if you have any allergies. To make things easy, my tip is to always say, “Yes, I’m allergic to meat and seafood and can’t eat them.” If you’re strict, be careful because a lot of Japanese dishes use fish broth too.
