Japan is now approaching mid-summer, and soon autumn will be here. Autumn and spring have always been the most popular seasons for travelers to visit Japan — and guess what? Tabigo’s customers usually inquire at least four months in advance to make sure they can secure a great spot! 😲

Today, we’re excited to share the Tabigo team’s favorite local spots for autumn, so you won’t have to squeeze in with crowds of tourists and can enjoy a perfect trip. 😉

Nikko (Tochigi) – Oct to Nov

One of the most popular spots close to Tokyo is Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture. Kinugawa Onsen, Kegon Falls, and Lake Yunoko are our top recommendations! These beautiful places, surrounded by rich nature, will definitely give you a refreshing break from busy city life.

Tateyama Kurobe Alps Route (Toyama) - Sept to Oct

The Tateyama Kurobe Alps are popular year-round, and their autumn season starts as early as September. We recommend the area from Daikanbo to Kurobedaira for its stunning alpine views and vibrant autumn colors. Although the Tateyama Ropeway is well-known, these spots can be difficult to access by public transportation.

Guess what? This is one of Tabigo’s most popular destinations for our chartered services!

Fudosawa Bridge (Fukushima) – Sept to Oct

A little farther from downtown, the spectacular view from Fudosawa Bridge overlooking the famous Tsubakuro Valley is well worth the trip. Other great spots nearby, like the Bandai Azuma Skyline and the Goshikinuma (Five Colored Lakes), are also beautiful in autumn and not overly crowded with tourists.

Shosenkyo (Yamanashi) – Oct to Nov

When we talk about autumn, how can we not mention Mt. Fuji? However, instead of the often-overcrowded Kawaguchiko Momiji Corridor, our top local pick is definitely Shosenkyo. Also in Yamanashi Prefecture, we recommend exploring Nishizawa Valley and the Yatsugatake Highlands Bridge for more peaceful autumn scenery.

Tourist spots easily reached by public transport are often crowded and busy, but Japan has so much more to offer than squeezing in with the crowds.
